Kuala Lumpur: Former chief sub-editor of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Domestic News Service (English Desk), Karrima Mohd Seth, died today at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Her younger sister, Fawziah, said Karrima, 78, who had been suffering from respiratory complications, breathed her last this afternoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fawziah explained that she was with Karrima at the hospital in the morning and had returned home at 12.30 pm. Shortly after her arrival home, she received the news of her sister’s passing. Karrima had been experiencing shortness of breath, fluid accumulation in her lungs, and unstable blood pressure.
Fawziah also mentioned that Karrima’s remains would be laid to rest tomorrow morning at the Kota Damansara Muslim Cemetery. Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin conveyed her condolences to Karrima’s family, highlighting her dedication as a sub-editor and mentor.
Nur-ul Afida noted the significant impact Karrima had on her colleagues and described her as a generous person from whom she had learned many things. Karrima’s career at Bernama spanned from November 16, 1970, to May 16, 1989. She began as a cadet journalist in 1970 and climbed the ranks, serving as a news executive in 1975, senior news executive in 1986, and chief sub-editor (English) in 1988, before retiring in 1989.
