Kuala Lumpur: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Malaysia today reaffirms the strong, enduring, and forward-looking partnership between Malaysia and Turkiye, stated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister highlighted Erdogan’s leadership over two decades, steering Turkiye through a period of significant transformation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister praised Erdogan for his clear purpose and conviction in reshaping Turkish statecraft, bolstering national pride, and positioning Turkiye as a key global player. Anwar delivered these remarks during a public lecture by Erdogan in Kuala Lumpur.
Erdogan arrived in Malaysia for a two-day official visit, invited by the Malaysian Prime Minister. Anwar emphasized his friendship with Erdogan as one rooted in steadfast solidarity rather than convenience, recalling Erdogan’s support during personal adversities.
Anwar described Erdogan’s journey as one of defiance, from imprisonment to reaching the highest office, marking it as a story of triumph and resilience. He credited Erdogan’s leadership for Turkiye’s current strength and determination.
Anwar expressed gratitude on behalf of Malaysia for Erdogan’s visit, recognizing him as a leader with influence extending beyond his borders. Earlier, Erdogan received an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations from Universiti Malaya, acknowledging his contributions to global diplomacy. The degree was conferred by UM Chancellor Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah during a special ceremony at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
