Kuala lumpur: The Environmental Quality (Amendment) Bill 2026 was tabled for its first reading in the Dewan Rakyat today. Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, when tabling the Bill, stated that the second reading would occur during the current sitting.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Bill aims to amend the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (Act 127) by introducing a new subsection (3) under Section 1. This amendment would grant the Minister the authority to suspend the operation of the entire Act or specific provisions of Act 127 in various parts of Malaysia.
Furthermore, the proposed amendments are designed not to incur any additional government expenditure, ensuring that the changes are financially sustainable.
