Penang: Penang Agrotechnology and Food Security Committee chairman Fahmi Zainol today assured that the state has an adequate supply of essential goods ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration. He said that so far, the committee has not received any official complaints regarding supply shortages.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi mentioned that typically, supply issues arise with items such as eggs, chicken, beef, cooking oil, and coconut milk ahead of Aidilfitri, but no official complaints have been received so far. He noted that the situation is under control, though there may be a slight shortage of packet cooking oil, while other items remain sufficient.
Fahmi highlighted the role of the Rahmah Sales programme in supporting the supply situation. This initiative offers essential goods at lower prices to ease the financial burden on the public. The programme takes place weekly at different locations across all state constituencies and has been met with an encouraging response.
“We are still continuing with the programme, and every time it is held, there are long queues as the prices offered are lower than market rates,” Fahmi stated.
Additionally, Fahmi noted that local white rice is now available in the market and is being sold across all districts, although the demand remains moderate at present.
