Energy Commission Announces Successful Bidders for NewGen25 Programme

Kuala lumpur: Bidding for the NewGen25 tender programme has been concluded, according to the Energy Commission (EC).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the EC stated that it launched the NewGen25 tender programme in May 2025, marking the first competitive bidding for a thermal power plant since 2012. The programme aims to enhance the country's energy infrastructure through strategic partnerships.

The successful bidders for Project Category 1 include Prai Power Sdn Bhd, which has been awarded a power plant project with a capacity of 350 megawatts (MW); GB3 Sdn Bhd with 429 MW; Segari Energy Ventures Sdn Bhd with 1,303 MW; and Stesen Janakuasa Gelugor with 310 MW. Other bidders in this category include Stesen Janakuasa Putrajaya with 249MW, Stesen Janakuasa Tuanku Ja'afar (PD1) with 703MW, Panglima Power Sdn Bhd with 700MW, Kuala Langat Power Sdn Bhd with 675MW, and Pengerang Power Sdn Bhd with an additional capacity of 150MW.

For Category 2 projects, the successful bidder is a consortium consisting of TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd and Aurora Power Generation Sdn Bhd. They will undertake the development of a new 1,400MW combined cycle power plant in Paka, Terengganu.

The letter of notification on technical and commercial terms has been issued to all the successful bidders. The EC expressed gratitude to all participants in the NewGen25 programme for their commitment and interest.
