Kota kinabalu: The spirit of patriotism must be translated into efforts to free the people from the shackles of poverty and division, rather than merely commemorating the nation's independence from colonial rule, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said today. He emphasized that independence is a precious gift that must be cherished and safeguarded through unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to developing the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hajiji's remarks were delivered by Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also the State Finance Minister, at the launch of Sabah's National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Menara Kinabalu. Hajiji highlighted that the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign should not be viewed merely as a ceremonial event but embraced as an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of patriotism.

He urged Sabahans to fly the Jalur Gemilang throughout the state as a symbol of their love for the nation and commitment to preserving unity. Hajiji expressed hope that all people would continue to stand united, work together, and support one another for a brighter future for Sabah. He stated that this year's celebration should mark a renewed commitment to building a more developed, progressive, and prosperous Sabah.

Hajiji also mentioned that the state government would continue advancing its development agenda through the 'Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya' (SMJ) 2.0 roadmap. This roadmap aims to build a more competitive, resilient, and prosperous state by focusing on sustainable economic growth, human capital development, productivity enhancement, greater competitiveness, the adoption of innovation and technology, and inclusive development.

Furthermore, the state government would strengthen initiatives that directly benefit the people, including education, welfare, housing, healthcare, rural development, the empowerment of women and youth, and the provision of higher-quality basic infrastructure and public amenities.
