Kota bharu: An 89-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a house fire this evening near Jalan Tok Guru. The blaze nearly obliterated her home in Kota Bharu.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Kota Bharu Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Satyuti Satar, reported that an emergency call was received via the NG999 system at 5.58 pm. The station promptly dispatched a team to the scene. Fire engines arrived at 6.01 pm with 27 personnel, discovering that the house, measuring 60 x 60 square feet, was already about 98 percent consumed by the flames.
Satyuti confirmed that a female victim was found deceased at the scene. Assistance from a nearby fire station helped swiftly bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and financial losses are yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, a witness, Anis Sutrliati Mohamad, recounted the harrowing events. She and her cousin were having tea about 20 meters from the victim's residence when they heard a crash and saw the victim signaling for help. Despite her attempts to assist, the intense heat forced her to call the fire department instead.
Anis shared that the victim had long suffered from frailty, limited mobility, and impaired vision, which may have contributed to the tragedy.
Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri confirmed the incident, which has been classified as sudden death.
