Elderly Man Dies After Diving Outing In Pulau Tioman

Rompin: An elderly man died after he was found unconscious following a diving trip at Kampung Paya, Pulau Tioman, in Rompin yesterday. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and health precautions necessary for diving activities, particularly for older individuals.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Rompin district police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi reported that the victim, Low Choon Foi, 72, was discovered on the beach by his friend at 7.40 pm. The two had embarked on their diving excursion earlier at around 6.30 pm.

The victim’s friend quickly sought help from the management of their accommodation to transport Low to the Kampung Tekek Health Clinic. Unfortunately, medical officers confirmed his death at 9.20 pm. Supt Sharif Shai stated that an initial examination showed no signs of foul play, and the case has been classified as a sudden death.

In his statement, Supt Sharif Shai advised individuals planning to engage in diving activities to ensure they are physically fit and in good health to prevent such tragic incidents. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures and health assessments in adventurous activities like diving.
