Kuala lumpur: National mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei is expected to undergo an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan on Monday after sustaining a left knee injury during the Singapore Open quarter-final yesterday. The extent of Ee Wei's injury remains uncertain, adding to the concerns surrounding her immediate future in the sport.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky confirmed the latest development, stating that the physiotherapist was unable to provide a conclusive assessment of the injury. 'Based on the (medical) report, she (physiotherapist) cannot tell the situation yet until the doctor does the MRI on Monday,' Rexy informed Bernama.
Ee Wei, along with her partner Chen Tang Jie, was forced to retire from their Singapore Open quarter-final match after Ee Wei sustained the injury. The duo was leading against India's world No. 28 pair, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, with a score of 18-16 when they had to withdraw from the match, which lasted only 24 minutes.
The reigning world champions now face an anxious wait to learn the full extent of Ee Wei's injury and its potential impact on their future competitions.
