Edra Expands Mangrove Rehabilitation Efforts at Jimah Power Plant

Port dickson: Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd has planted 1,000 mangrove saplings as part of the second phase of its mangrove rehabilitation initiative at the Jimah Power Plant in Port Dickson, yesterday. Jimah Power Plant acting power station manager Muhammad Mazli Ismail Jamail stated that the programme also marked the establishment of a mangrove nursery featuring Sonneratia and Avicennia species, which serve as the first line of coastal defence and provide vital habitats for the breeding and growth of other mangrove species.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 2,000 mangrove saplings have been planted along the coastal area of the power plant, reflecting Edra’s continued commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Muhammad Mazli emphasized that by planting these mangroves and establishing a dedicated nursery, a foundation is being laid for a sustainable green ecosystem that nurtures biodiversity, creates thriving habitats for wildlife, and ensures a continuous supply of seedlings for future restoration efforts within Edra and the wider community.

He further explained that over time, these efforts would help curb coastline erosion and bring socioeconomic benefits to the local community through ecotourism and the revitalisation of marine resources. The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society and the state Department of Environment, with participation from Edra employees and members of the local community, including the Port Dickson Area Fishermen’s Association.

Muhammad Mazli highlighted that this effort represents a continuation of Edra’s mangrove rehabilitation initiatives and reinforces community involvement in environmental preservation, aligning with the company’s broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. He noted that under the first phase of the initiative implemented last year, 1,000 mangrove saplings were successfully planted within the power plant area.

Moreover, he added that the project aligns with Malaysia’s 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with Edra committed to leading environmental initiatives while integrating sustainability into its operations and corporate culture.
