Kuala Lumpur: The commitment of China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) in completing the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project has strengthened strategic Malaysia-China cooperation in the development of high-impact infrastructure. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced that the project is on a solid track for completion in December 2026, with full operations expected to begin on January 1, 2027.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar shared these updates following his meeting with Wang Tongzhou, chairman of CCCC. The meeting, which occurred after the ASEAN Summit, focused on the progress of the ECRL project, which had reached 82.45 percent completion as of April 2025. Discussions also covered the readiness of ECRL Operation Sdn Bhd for the operational and maintenance phase.
The 665-kilometre ECRL project spans the east coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang, before connecting Selangor on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia
