ECRL Project Nears Completion with 92.62% Progress as of February 2026, Reports Amir Hamzah

Kuala lumpur: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project has reached 92.62 per cent completion as of February 2026, aligning with the schedule to finish the Kota Bharu-Gombak alignment by the end of this year and start commercial operations in January 2027.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that the ECRL alignment from Gombak to Port Klang in Selangor is set for completion by December 2027, with full operations expected by January 2028.

He mentioned that the commercial operation of electric multiple unit (EMU) trains and electric locomotives (E-Loco) would bolster the ECRL as a green transportation mode for passengers and cargo. This network will extend over a 665-kilometre electric rail system across the East Coast states and Selangor.

Amir Hamzah emphasized that the project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of the 519-km main track alignment from Kota Bharu to Gombak ahead of schedule. This progress is attributed to the dedication and cooperation between Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and China Communications Construction (CCC)-ECRL, along with the support from all involved parties.

He shared these remarks during the signing ceremony for the appointment agreement of the joint lead coordinator (JLC) for foreign exchange risk management of the ECRL project and the completion of the ECRL track construction from Kota Bharu to Gombak held today.
