Kuala lumpur: Econsave Cash and Carry Sdn Bhd (Econsave), in collaboration with Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE), is distributing humanitarian aid worth approximately RM100,000 to flood victims in Sumatra, as part of initial support for post-disaster recovery efforts. Econsave Southern Region manager Mas Imran Adam said the assistance comprises basic necessities such as food supplies, as well as tarpaulins and the establishment of a communal kitchen to support affected residents.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the communal kitchen will operate daily for 10 days to provide hot meals for about 200 residents in the village. The aid was presented as part of the Sumatra Flood Humanitarian Mission in Kampung Gedumbak, Langkahan. Additionally, 300 pieces of tarpaulin were donated to 150 displaced families to help them rebuild a sense of shelter and security as they begin the long process of recovery after the floods.

Mas Imran Adam noted that Kampung Gedumbak, home to about 1,000 residents from 450 families, was selected for the assistance due to limited aid received and being one of the areas worst affected by the major floods on November 26. Almost 90 percent of the houses in this village suffered serious damage or collapse.

Meanwhile, MyCARE project manager Noorsyazly Rameli stated that the aid mission involved 15 personnel, with two operational teams deployed in North Sumatra and Aceh. The communal kitchen in Kampung Gedumbak was implemented in collaboration with Islamic Relief Indonesia, funded by MyCARE and Econsave.

A cow was donated for the communal kitchen to ensure a sufficient food supply throughout the operation period. The destruction faced by residents is significant, and the recovery process is expected to take a long time. MyCARE urges Malaysians to continue supporting the victims through prayers and contributions to the MyCARE fund for sustained follow-up assistance.
