EC To Review Electoral Boundaries Following Proposed Constitutional Amendments

Kuala lumpur: The Election Commission (EC) will conduct a review of electoral constituency boundaries, subject to amendments to the Federal Constitution. EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun highlighted the potential for change following recent discussions on increasing parliamentary seats in Sabah and Sarawak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced proposed amendments aimed at increasing the number of parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak. The review will encompass electoral constituencies in Peninsular Malaysia as well, ensuring that representation ratios for Sabah and Sarawak are elevated from their current levels.

In a statement released today, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun emphasized that the EC's review of electoral constituency boundaries will align with the planned constitutional amendments. The review process will be comprehensive, covering the delineation of electoral constituencies within the three study units.

Further updates and clarifications from the EC are anticipated once an official decision is reached, ensuring transparency and public awareness of any developments.
