CAGAYAN DE ORO: Electric bike (e-bike) owners need to register their units if they want to be allowed on public roads, the Land Transportation Office in Northern Mindanao (LTO-10) said on Tuesday. During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas media information drive here, LTO-10 Director Abosamen Matuan said e-bikes can be registered as long as they are accredited and owners can submit a certificate of stock report. Matuan said the registration costs PHP240 with an offer of 30-percent discount. Registering e-bikes is part of the agency's campaign for safe and peaceful roads, the LTFRB-10 official added. From January to May 2024, LTO registered 268,259 motor vehicles; issued 134,790 licenses and permits; and collected a revenue of PHP601 million. The agency also made 15,692 apprehensions. In 2023, LTO registered 570,212 motor vehicles; issued 301,047 licenses and permits; collected revenue of PHP1.2 billion; and made 26,448 apprehensions. "In comparison, from January to May 2024, our registered motor vehicles reached 268,259. This means we accomplished half of that last year as of May 31, 2024," Matuan said.
