BUKIT GAMBIR: Police have cracked down on drug trafficking and processing activities in a forest area near Cangkat Bukit Gambir following the arrest of a local man yesterday afternoon. The operation, spearheaded by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, led to the seizure of heroin and processing equipment valued at RM51,370.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Timur Laut district police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad announced the arrest of a 47-year-old suspect found in a forest toilet. The raid, conducted by the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters’ narcotics team, was based on intelligence gathered about the illegal activities. Authorities seized a brown paper box with ‘Luzhou Laojiao Touqu’ inscribed on it, containing heroin weighing 5,351 grams.
The investigation revealed that the syndicate had been operating since early December 2024. The confiscated drugs could potentially be used by 26,755 individuals or for an equivalent number of doses. The suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has 10 prior records for criminal and drug-related offenses.
The suspect is set to be remanded for seven days to assist in the ongoing investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
