Kuala lumpur: The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Education Department (JPWPKL) will carry out an internal investigation to review compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) in organising a water confidence programme, following the death of an 11-year-old schoolboy yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JPWPKL stated that the case is being probed by the police and assured that it will provide full cooperation in the ongoing investigation. JPWPKL has extended its condolences to the family of the student who drowned during a recent programme and has provided initial support and assistance to the family.
The department has mobilised a team of counsellors and guidance teachers to offer psychosocial support to students, teachers, and all school staff involved. The 11-year-old boy, a student at a primary school in Kuala Lumpur, died yesterday after receiving two days of treatment following the drowning incident during a water confidence support programme at the Desa Tasik Sports Complex Swimming Pool, Sungai Besi, last Wednesday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed they received a report on the incident involving the student from the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) on the same day it occurred.
