Driver Misidentified In Fatal Crash, SUV Driven By Policeman’s Brother

Sungai petani: Police today confirmed that the Proton X50 sport utility vehicle (SUV) that collided with a lorry carrying a load of soil at Kampung Baru Pinang Tunggal, Sungai Petani, yesterday was driven by its owner, Ahmad Fahim Ahmad Shukri.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah stated that there had been an error in the earlier information, which indicated that the SUV was driven by Ahmad Syafiq Ahmad Shukri, 29, a Lance Corporal attached to the Seberang Perai Selatan district police headquarters. Initial reports from the Fire and Rescue Department had mistakenly identified the driver as a police officer.

Datuk Adzli explained, "Initially, the police were informed by the Fire and Rescue Department that the SUV was driven by a police officer. However, this morning it was confirmed that the vehicle was driven by the policeman's younger brother. There was an error in the information received," he said when contacted by Bernama.

The tragic accident occurred at about 3.50 pm yesterday, resulting in the deaths of six family members, including a baby. A three-year-old girl sustained serious injuries in the incident. The victims were traveling in the Proton X50 SUV, which collided with a lorry carrying a load of soil while they were en route from Penang to Merbok to visit a family member's grave.
