DPMs and Cabinet Ministers Call for Unity and Respect in Wesak Day Messages

Kuala Lumpur: The Deputy Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers today extended Wesak Day greetings to all Buddhists in the country, while calling on Malaysians to continue nurturing unity and mutual respect. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasized Malaysia’s unique identity as a nation that celebrates cultural and traditional diversity, urging citizens to preserve and protect this shared strength.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof highlighted the importance of embracing the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, which upholds respect, compassion, and the celebration of diversity. He encouraged Malaysians to strengthen the bonds of unity, brotherhood, and tolerance. Fadillah also expressed hope that Wesak Day would bring renewed light and further unity to the multiracial society.

Buddhists across Malaysia celebrate Wesak Day to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. Traditionally, the day is marked by gatherings at Buddhist temples for religious chanting and processions.

The Prime Minister’s Office extended Wesak Day greetings, emphasizing compassion, wisdom, and moderation in fostering a cultured and harmonious society. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek also shared messages of love, wisdom, and unity, urging Malaysians to nurture values of compassion and tolerance.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail called on citizens to appreciate diversity as a shared strength, while Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted the importance of humanity and respect in supporting national food security.

Other ministers, including Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, and Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, reinforced messages of peace, harmony, and mutual respect. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo extended well wishes, hoping the celebration would bring happiness and well-being to all.
