Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) to develop a comprehensive Rural Youth Development Plan aimed at equipping the rural youth with digital literacy, knowledge, and skills necessary to meet modern world challenges.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposed plan aims not only to create job opportunities via the establishment of Rural Gig Hubs but also to foster leadership by appointing Rural Youth Ambassadors to represent and voice the concerns of the new rural generation. Ahmad Zahid outlined the potential for an ASEAN Rural Youth Exchange Programme to provide international exposure and knowledge-sharing opportunities for young people.
Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Rural and Regional Development Minister, expressed confidence in the ministry’s ability to develop this plan with active participation from all associated agencies, coordinated through a dedicated platform or committee. He emphasized the importance of enabling Malaysian rural youth to expand their horizons and compete globally, viewing them as strategic assets for Malaysia’s future.
Reflecting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s message from a past meeting with KKDW leadership, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the need for effective implementation of rural development projects with tangible benefits. He stressed the importance of diligent monitoring and comprehensive reporting to Cabinet Ministers, ensuring prompt resolution of any arising issues.
As a proactive measure, Ahmad Zahid proposed that KKDW establish a detailed and transparent monthly performance schedule to track project progress and aid delivery to communities. He emphasized the necessity of using complete, fact-based data to ensure inclusivity in the Rural Transformation Agenda.
Additionally, Ahmad Zahid called on the Community Development Department (KEMAS) to enhance engagement with parents and educators to assess the impact of the KEMAS Pre-Tahfiz Programme. He highlighted the significance of these engagements for gathering feedback and considering improvements, including a proposal for a Special Needs Nursery.
He concluded by stressing that initiatives like these are crucial in driving social mobility within rural communities, urging KKDW to ensure that every programme delivers genuine impact and meaningful change.
