Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated a Banting MARA College student on receiving an offer to further her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. Ahmad Zahid, in his post on Facebook, described the success of 18-year-old Leia Mayssa Masyerin as not only making her family and the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) proud but also a symbol of the ability of Malaysian students to compete and excel at the highest levels in the world.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid expressed that with determination, discipline, and a strong spirit, there are no limits to achieving success. He conveyed his best wishes for Leia’s journey at MIT and hoped she would continue to inspire the younger generation to chase their dreams. Ahmad Zahid noted that Leia’s achievements reflect the potential and capability of Malaysian students on the global stage.
Ahmad Zahid further highlighted Leia’s accomplishments, stating that she has been offered a place to study Computer Science at MIT for the 2025 intake. He remarked on her previous representation of Malaysia in the International Mathematical Olympiad for three consecutive years in Norway (2022), Japan (2023), and the United Kingdom (2024), where she earned a bronze medal and two Honorary Mentions.
He also mentioned Leia’s selection to join the International Mathematics Camp, Maths Beyond Limits, in Poland. This exclusive programme brings together outstanding students from across the globe to enhance their talents in Mathematics and build an international academic network.
