Busan: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof arrived in Busan, South Korea, at 4.45 pm local time on Monday to lead Malaysia’s delegation to the 15th APEC Energy Ministers Meeting (APEC EMM15). Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was received by Malaysia’s Ambassador to South Korea, Datuk Mohd Zamruni Khalid, along with Deputy Secretary-General (Energy) Mareena Mahpudz.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah will remain in Busan until August 29 for the meeting and a series of working visits. The APEC EMM is a ministerial-level meeting under APEC and continues from the previous session held in Lima, Peru, last year. Key agenda items include discussions on policies and initiatives in the energy sector, and efforts to promote cooperation and investment among APEC economies.

This year’s meeting is hosted by South Korea under the theme ‘Accelerating Sustainable, Affordable, Reliable, Secure and Innovative Energy for a Prosperous Future.’ The outcome will be finalized through a joint ministerial statement.

The Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Brunei to broaden cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in advancing Malaysia’s energy transition agenda. Additionally, he will conduct working visits to Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP), the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant, and Doosan Enerbility, as well as tour the Gangbyeon Wastewater Treatment Plant in Busan. He will also attend a meet-and-greet session with the Malaysian diaspora in the city.
