‘Dongeng Sang Kancil’ Poised for International Acclaim, Says Prime Minister Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has voiced his confidence in the international potential of ‘Dongeng Sang Kancil,’ the latest animated film from Malaysian production house Les’ Copaque. The film, which takes inspiration from the cherished folklore character Sang Kancil, has been highlighted as a creative work that embodies Malaysian cultural heritage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar described the film as a nostalgic reminder of Sang Kancil’s cleverness in overcoming challenges and uniting the jungle’s animals. He commended the team for crafting an animation that instills national pride. In a Facebook post, Anwar expressed his belief that local creative talents would continue to gain international recognition, with divine support.

Anwar also mentioned that he had the opportunity to watch the film with his family, students from several Kuala Lumpur schools, and orphans from SK Semenyih, Selangor. The screening underscored the film’s appeal across different audiences.

‘Dongeng Sang Kancil’ marks a significant milestone as Malaysia’s first animated feature to blend hybrid 3D technology with 2D special effects. The 90-minute film debuted nationwide on December 26, achieving impressive box office sales of RM1.5 million on its opening day. The storyline follows the clever mousedeer on a quest for justice after a dark shadow kills its mother, promising an adventurous narrative for viewers.
