Domestic Flight Capacity Boosted for Hari Raya Travel Surge, Confirms Loke

Kuala lumpur: Domestic flight capacity has been increased to accommodate the surge in travel demand ahead of Aidilfitri, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He confirmed that no domestic flights have been cancelled by local airlines so far.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the government has taken proactive measures to increase flights for the Hari Raya period. While no domestic flights have faced cancellations, any disruptions have been limited to routes considered at risk due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Loke emphasized the importance of avoiding flight cancellations to prevent negative economic impacts and noted that the government is actively engaging with local airlines to explore cost-reduction strategies within the aviation sector.

The Transport Ministry is set to hold discussions with airlines and other industry stakeholders to identify potential cost mitigation measures. Additionally, Loke mentioned that a proposal will be presented to the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) to explore possible government assistance to alleviate financial pressures on airlines.

'Later this evening, we will meet with MTEN and present our proposal to explore how we can reduce operational costs for flights,' Loke stated.

The ongoing conflict in West Asia has impacted the global aviation sector, leading to a decline in passenger numbers from the region. However, Loke pointed out that this situation has opened opportunities for local airlines to meet increased demand for flights to other destinations, notably in Europe.

Malaysia Airlines, for example, has experienced higher demand for flights to London and Paris as passengers face limited travel options through hubs in West Asia.
