Do Not Speculate, Make Assumptions On Discussions Between Petronas And Petros – Fadillah

Kuala Lumpur: Any parties not involved in the negotiations between Petroleum Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Sarawak’s state-owned oil and gas company, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) on gas distribution in the state are urged to not make any assumptions on the matter. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said he wanted the negotiations between the two oil and gas companies to go well and bring benefits to Sarawak and the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah emphasized that individuals who are not privy to the details of the discussions should refrain from making assumptions. He stressed the importance of balancing the interests of the country with those of Sarawak, noting that any development beneficial to Sarawak would also advantage the federal government through tax contributions.

Fadillah made these remarks in response to claims that there were efforts to create discord between Petronas and Petros over gas distribution rights in Sarawak. He addressed these concerns after participating in the Ramadan Bazaar Tour programme in Matang Jaya.

In a statement issued last Saturday, Petronas indicated its collaboration with the federal government, the Sarawak government, and Petros to define Petros’ future role as the state’s gas aggregator. Petronas highlighted that this collaboration aims to safeguard the rights and interests of all stakeholders, including end customers and investors, and ensure a stable investment environment.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also mentioned that the federal government plans to meet with the Sarawak government to delineate the cooperative efforts between Petronas and Petros. This discussion will explore potential collaborations on new projects across various fields.
