Kuala Lampur:Digital Nasional Bhd has successfully concluded a RM5.2 billion syndicated Islamic term financing deal, marking a pivotal development in the advancement of its dual 5G network framework.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this financing initiative bolsters DNB's long-term financial stability and supports the planned withdrawal of Minister of Finance Inc as an ordinary shareholder. The transition aims for equal ownership among mobile network operator shareholders, including CelcomDigi Bhd, Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd, and YTL Power International Bhd, by early fourth quarter 2026.
Minister of Finance Inc will maintain a special share in DNB to protect national interests, ensuring key strategic matters are overseen while allowing for the company's progression into its next developmental phase. The financing includes refinancing DNB's expired Government Guarantee Revolving Credit Facility and establishes a sustainable funding structure for future growth.
The completion of this financing coincides with the full assignment of the 3.3-3.4GHz spectrum and the conversion of DNB's 240MHz spectrum holding to a Spectrum Assignment, effective immediately following issuance by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. This spectrum will enhance network capacity and support advanced technologies such as Massive MIMO, carrier aggregation, and AI-driven network capabilities.
DNB's CEO, Datuk Azman Ismail, emphasized that the financing enables the company to operate independently, continue investing in network enhancements, and leverage its expanded spectrum assets. The company is committed to providing top-tier digital infrastructure to support various stakeholders and the government's AI Nation goals.
CelcomDigi noted that the 15-year 5G spectrum award provides long-term spectrum availability and cost certainty, facilitating better network planning and investment. With a strong network footprint and infrastructure, CelcomDigi aims to enhance 5G capacity, coverage, and customer experience, working closely with DNB to drive cost efficiencies and accelerate indoor 5G deployment.
