Kuala lumpur: The Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI) Foundation has announced its ambitious plan to assist 2,000 needy families in Melaka through the Food Bank DMDI programme, which aims to provide monthly food kits for a year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chairman Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali stated that the initiative will begin in phases, initially reaching 200 families before expanding to the full target of 2,000 recipients. The programme is designed to aid the poor, asnaf groups, persons with disabilities (PwDs), single mothers, and families with unstable incomes by offering basic food supplies to alleviate their financial burdens.

Each family chosen for the programme will receive a food kit containing essential items. Recipients are selected based on recommendations from community leaders and are subsequently screened by the Food Bank committee. The announcement was made at the DMDI Food Bank Centre in Kota Cemerlang, Ayer Keroh.

Earlier, Mohd Ridhwan received food supplies valued at RM16,000 from donors for distribution to programme beneficiaries. He also mentioned that the DMDI provides food kits on an ad hoc basis to disaster victims, such as those affected by floods, depending on current needs.

The public can support the programme by donating as little as RM1 through the foundation's website, www.foodbankdmdi.org. The foundation is also seeking approval from LHDN to issue tax exemption receipts to donors.
