Displaying Jalur Gemilang Without Crescent Moon Concerns Malaysian King

Kuala Lumpur: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has expressed concerns over the recent incident where the Jalur Gemilang was displayed without its crescent moon on the front page of a local Chinese newspaper. His Majesty emphasized that such an oversight could trigger public sensitivities and is deemed unacceptable.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the statement was made on the official Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar. His Majesty highlighted the importance of vigilance from the newspaper’s management and editorial teams to thoroughly check content before it is printed and published.

Sultan Ibrahim underlined the significance of the national flag as a symbol of sovereignty and national identity. He remarked, “A flag is not just a colourful piece of cloth, but it represents the struggle, history, meaning of independence, and the spirit of the people.”

The King further stated the importance of flying the flag with pride and a patriotic spirit within Malaysia’s multiracial society. Following the incident, Sin Chew Daily issued an apology for the error in its front-page illustration.
