Disabled Man Denies Charges in Syariah Court for Wearing Women’s Attire

Kota bharu: A disabled man pleaded not guilty in the Lower Syariah Court here today to a charge of posing as a woman by wearing women's clothing in November last year. Khairul Izwan Sidi Ahmad, 25, who has learning disabilities, entered the plea after the charge was read out before Judge Wan Mohd Firdaus W. Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, he was accused of wearing a slim-fit T-shirt, women's underwear, and women's slippers at the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEAIK) here at 2.35 pm on November 9, 2025. The charge was framed under Section 19(1) of the Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019, which provides for a maximum fine of RM3,000, up to two years in prison, or both, upon conviction.

Kelantan Syarie Deputy Prosecutor Syafika Mat Husin prosecuted, while Syarie lawyers Muhammad Syarafi Mohd Salleh and Mohd Faqqhurudin Mohd Nasir represented the accused. Earlier, Syafika proposed bail of RM1,000 with one surety. However, Muhammad Syarafi requested the amount be reduced to RM500, citing his client's status as a Persons with Disabilities (PwD) cardholder and his responsibility to help support his family.

The court then set bail at RM1,000 with one surety and fixed December 1 for mention.
