Kuala Lumpur: The Digital Ministry, through the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), has undertaken several initiatives aimed at driving AI adoption within the public sector, focusing on skills training, engagement, and cross-sector collaboration.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong highlighted efforts such as the AI At Work 2.0 programme, launched on February 5 in partnership with Google Cloud. This initiative is designed to enhance productivity among civil servants by incorporating generative AI tools into their daily operations.
The Deputy Minister further detailed the ‘Train-for-Trainer’ workshop, which took place from March 3 to 7, involving 250 MyGOVUC IT administrators. This workshop is set to expand to all ministries to ensure a comprehensive digitalisation process within the public sector. “This approach is expected to enable civil servants to focus more time on strategic tasks and strengthen service delivery to the people,” he stated during a session at the Dewan Negara.
In response to Senator Datuk Mustafa Musa’s inquiry about the AI for the People Programme, he revealed that 1,391,455 participants had been involved in the programme as of March 19. The programme’s focus for 2025 includes developing AI talent, establishing public sector AI guidelines, providing necessary infrastructure, and creating AI systems.
Wilson Ugak also mentioned that the Digital Ministry, through the National Digital Department, is actively engaging with stakeholders to discuss the Guidelines for the Adoption of AI in the Public Sector, launched on February 27. These guidelines aim to ensure the efficient, responsible, and ethical use of AI across the public sector.
