Kuala Lumpur:The Dewan Negara expressed its condolences to the family of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who passed away yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah remarked that her passing represents a significant loss to the nation. He praised her as a stateswoman and a pioneering Malay woman doctor who earned widespread respect.

During the condolence session, which followed the swearing-in of Perak PKR chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri as a new Senator, Awang Bemee highlighted her enduring contributions to public health and community welfare.

He also offered prayers for Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, seeking forgiveness for her sins and hoping she finds a place among the faithful. He wished her family strength and patience in coping with their loss.

The session concluded with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a moment of silence, serving as a final tribute to her. Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, died at the National Heart Institute at the age of 100.
