Detention of Jerusalem Grand Mufti Sparks Outrage and Accusations of Religious Freedom Violation

Kuala lumpur: The Israeli Zionist regime's detention of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, has been criticized as an infringement on religious freedom and an affront to Islamic scholarship and the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) president Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom expressed strong support for Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan's condemnation of the detention. Dr Hasan emphasized that the Grand Mufti serves as the voice of the Muslim community, a custodian of knowledge, and a symbol of religious authority, and that detaining him would not suppress the truth but instead reveal the regime's apprehension towards those defending Palestinian rights and dignity.

Media reports indicate that the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) criticized the Israeli regime for detaining Sheikh Muhammad Hussein after Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque on July 10. Although the Grand Mufti was subsequently released, the act of detaining a religious leader during his duties at a sacred Islamic site was deemed a breach of religious freedom and a disregard for the Al-Aqsa Mosque's sanctity.

Meanwhile, Hasan highlighted YADIM's continued efforts in promoting solidarity with the Palestinian cause through initiatives such as Wake Up 4 Aqsa and participation in the Month of Solidarity with Palestine and the Oppressed. The organization remains committed to keeping the Palestinian issue at the forefront of Malaysian consciousness through forums, discussions, advocacy campaigns, and public education programs.

Guided by Malaysia MADANI values, YADIM is determined to enhance its solidarity agenda for Palestine, prioritizing action over rhetoric. Hasan stated that YADIM volunteers, along with other dakwah agents, will be mobilized nationwide to raise public awareness and organize humanitarian programs in support of the Palestinian people.

Hasan emphasized that the situation at Al-Aqsa is a matter of universal concern, and YADIM's solidarity efforts will continue to manifest in programs aimed at fostering public awareness and promoting universal humanitarian values.
