Defence Showcase Evokes Nostalgia, Inspires Youths At Melaka PMR 2025

Melaka: The various military assets and equipment on display at the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 in Melaka not only attracted young visitors but also evoked pride and nostalgia among Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans who attended the event.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Lt Col (Rtd) Shaedi Abu Bakar, 64, expressed that the exhibition, organised by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), felt like a journey back to his days at the RMAF air operations base, bringing back memories of serving alongside comrades. He noted that most of the equipment showcased was new, and seeing the Skyhawk aircraft from the Air Force Museum reminded him of his days during operations. He remarked on the advanced state of the country’s defence assets, reflecting the progress of Malaysia’s military capabilities.

Maj (Rtd) Mazlan Mat Atan, 69, formerly from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps, shared similar sentiments, highlighting the exhibition’s role in rekindling fond memories and introducing the public to the reality and potential of military careers. He expressed gratitude for the organisation of such programmes, emphasizing that they provide the public with an understanding of the sacrifices and strength of MAF personnel. He also pointed out the value of exposing the younger generation to the country’s defence capabilities and technologies through demonstrations and exhibits.

Mazlan further stated that programmes like this can attract youths and keep them away from unhealthy social activities. He suggested that instead of engaging in loitering or street racing, it is better for youths to learn about military careers and see the nation’s defence assets up close, an opportunity not often available.

The three-day event, held under the theme ‘Aspirasi MADANI, Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara,’ was organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) under the Prime Minister’s Department, in strategic collaboration with MINDEF and the Melaka state government as co-organisers. This year’s edition featured a special exhibition of military assets and equipment brought in by MINDEF, allowing the public to observe national defence elements up close and better understand the concept of Total Defence (HANRUH), based on the spirit of defending the homeland through the Whole of Government, Whole of Society approach.
