Labis: The Defence Literacy Programme will be introduced as a new component under the Ministry of Defence's Jiwa Murni Programme (PJM) this year, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin announced. The initiative, spearheaded by the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS), seeks to educate the public about geopolitics as part of the Comprehensive Defence (Hanruh) strategy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme aims to enhance Malaysians' understanding of the geopolitical landscape, including threats in the South China Sea, and assess the nation's defence preparedness compared to neighbouring countries. Mohamed Khaled shared these insights after launching the 2026 Kementah MADANI Jiwa Murni Programme at Dewan Semai Bakti, Felda Maokil, Labis. The event was attended by several notable figures, including the deputy chief of Army, Lt Gen Datuk Mohamad Suria Mohamad Saad.
During the launch, Mohamed Khaled presented a cheque for RM6 million to support the 2025 Kementah MADANI PJM implementation. The funds were handed over to the chief engineer of the Royal Engineer Regiment, Brig Gen Sharuddin Mohd Noh. Additionally, an RM500,000 cheque was given to Maj Gen Datuk Mohd Rashidi Bujai, the director general of the Islamic Spiritual Division of the Malaysian Armed Forces, for the Ilmu dan Muafakat Programme (PIKAT).
Mohamed Khaled further detailed that the RM6 million allocation is intended for 57 PJM projects nationwide, distributed as follows: 28 in Melaka, 17 in Johor, four in Kedah, three in Perak, two in Kelantan, and one each in Negeri Sembilan, Sarawak, and Terengganu. This year's PJM projects are focused on upgrading mosques, prayer halls, community halls, schools, sports facilities, cemeteries, and infrastructure.
