Kajang: Any decisions regarding school sessions, including the possible implementation of home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) amid the country's hot weather, will be made in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia). Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized that the ministry will assess both short- and long-term strategies to address the impacts of extreme heat, focusing on the well-being and safety of the school community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina stated that every plan will be coordinated with MOH and other relevant agencies to ensure that the measures are well-organized and effective, without disrupting students' learning. She reiterated that the primary concern is the education of children as well as the well-being of the school community. The minister shared these insights with reporters at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Kajang.
Proposals under consideration include creating covered areas to facilitate safer environments for school activities. Additionally, the possibility of using air conditioning in schools has not been dismissed. Fadhlina acknowledged these suggestions, indicating that they will be reviewed at the ministry level.
MetMalaysia reported that the hot weather currently affecting the country is anticipated to persist until the early phase of the Southwest Monsoon in June, attributed to drier atmospheric conditions and lower rainfall.
