Putrajaya: A man with the title of Datuk who was released from remand on Saturday was rearrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection to an ongoing case of submitting false claims worth RM450 million.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, an MACC source stated that the man, in his 60s, was arrested along with another suspect, in his 50s, at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya at 7 pm yesterday. They were there to provide their statements. Both men have been remanded this morning, with the Datuk being remanded for two days until tomorrow, and the other man for five days until May 9.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects were believed to have submitted false claims worth about RM450 million. These claims were made using sukuk funds and involved obtaining a facility from a regional office for a highway construction project in Klang Valley valued at approximately RM1.3 billion.
The recent arrests are part of a broader investigation into false claims amounting to about RM360 million, bringing the total to RM800 million. Five individuals were previously remanded in connection with the case, with four of them being released on MACC bail last week.
Meanwhile, MACC investigation division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
