Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the area stretching from Dataran Merdeka to Carcosa Seri Negara will be declared as a Kuala Lumpur Heritage Site. Anwar revealed that Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) presented the areas identified for this purpose to the Cabinet during the morning’s Cabinet Meeting.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Cabinet requested Khazanah and City Hall to provide an explanation regarding the entire area starting from Dataran Merdeka, including Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Keretapi Tanah Melayu, extending to Carcosa Seri Negara to be designated as the Kuala Lumpur Heritage site. Anwar emphasized that this marks the first time in history that Khazanah is attempting to preserve a heritage site in Kuala Lumpur with an allocation beginning from the RM1 billion figure.
Anwar, who also holds the position of Finance Minister, mentioned that he had communicated with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, about preserving the Sultan Abdul Samad Building as a heritage symbol of the Malay Sultanate.
In his speech during the opening of the Selangor PKR Divisions, Women’s Wing, and Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Annual General Meetings, Anwar criticized Perikatan Nasional (PN) for merely criticizing the current government without contributing to the welfare of Malays during their tenure in power. He accused PN of failing to prioritize the Malay community while they were in control, focusing instead on personal wealth accumulation.
Key figures in attendance at the event included PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, PKR Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek, Angkatan Muda Keadilan chief Adam Adli, and PKR Information Chief Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the Communications Minister.
