Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has hosted Data Centre Nexus 2025, bringing together 400 stakeholders from across the digital ecosystem to reimagine Malaysia’s role in the global data economy. In a statement today, MIDA said the landmark event was designed to foster collaboration, strengthen Malaysia’s local supply chain, and address critical gaps in the data centre ecosystem.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event explored policy enablers for digital transformation and championed cloud adoption as a catalyst for innovation and economic resilience. MIDA reported that seven high-impact panel sessions delved into scaling data centres, building resilient digital infrastructure, AI-driven innovation, and leveraging regional opportunities for local economic benefits. In his keynote address, Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong urged stakeholders to collaborate for multiple wins for Malaysia. He emphasized the importance of leading energy transition, investing in a Malaysian equipment supply chain, and creating data centre service jobs for the region.

MIDA’s chief executive officer, Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, highlighted the focus on creating value within the local ecosystem, emphasizing the establishment of a resilient, Malaysian-grown local supply chain that supports the expansion of data centre infrastructure amidst global uncertainties. He noted the presence of supply chain companies as a testament to Malaysia’s growing digital ecosystem.

MIDA added that Malaysia’s data centre market is projected to grow from US$4.04 billion in 2024 to US$13.57 billion by 2030, driven by a 22.38 per cent annual growth rate.
