Data Centre Framework to Streamline Development and Policy Coordination: Gobind

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Digital is set to develop a comprehensive data centre framework through the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF), ensuring that data centre development policy and implementation are cohesively coordinated. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced that this framework, which is slated for launch by October 2025, will play a crucial role in addressing issues related to essential data integration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the DCTF has been established as a committee to consolidate relevant aspects when applications for data centres are received. Gobind emphasized the importance of considering factors such as storage, security, and priorities in data management, highlighting the need for effective data integration strategies. He shared these insights with the media following his visit to the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre, where Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif was also in attendance.

In a joint statement by the Ministry of Digital and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, it was revealed that the DCTF meeting on Monday concluded with the decision to make the Ministry of Digital responsible for crafting a framework to propel the nation’s digital economy forward. Furthermore, the meeting determined that the Malaysian Investment Development Authority would take the lead in approving applications for new projects and the expansion of existing investments concerning data centres.

Earlier in the day, Minister Gobind participated in a briefing by Kuala Lumpur City Hall on the city’s ambitions to evolve into an AI-powered urban hub. He noted that the integration of AI technology is pivotal in modernizing urban infrastructure and services, enhancing efficiency, and ultimately elevating the quality of life for residents.
