Kuala lumpur: DAP wants two crucial reform agendas that require Federal Constitution amendments - namely the separation of powers between the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, and a term limit for the Prime Minister - to be debated and decided upon in Parliament during the upcoming October session. According to BERNAMA News Agency, DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke stated that this stance was determined by the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) during its recent meeting, which marked the first CEC gathering following the DAP National Conference on August 16. The Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2026 aims to separate the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, providing for the appointment of a Public Prosecutor and safeguarding provisions to ensure the independence of the role. Additionally, the Bill to limit the Prime Minister's tenure seeks to cap the office at a maximum of 10 years, promoting leadership renewal and political diversity. Loke highlighted that the C EC meeting also addressed the National Conference's decision to mandate the party leadership for DAP to remain in the MADANI Government until the end of the 15th Parliament term. He emphasized the CEC's commitment to executing this mandate responsibly and advancing reform agendas. Moreover, the CEC resolved to urge the Penang State Government to implement a Constituency Development Fund Enactment to ensure equitable distribution of development allocations to all State Assemblymen, irrespective of party affiliation. This principle of fairness, Loke noted, should also be applied at the Federal level and across other state governments. The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming Melaka and Sarawak State Elections, focusing on defending current DAP seats and identifying potential new constituencies to contest.
