Johor bahru: DAP has named four candidates for the Johor state election on July 11.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the candidates include Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani, 38, who serves as a private secretary to the Deputy Finance Minister, and will contest the Tiram state seat. Additionally, Johor DAP Socialist Youth chief Lee Wern Yiing, 30, is set to contest Johor Jaya. Mohamad Shafwan Ani, 33, who is a special assistant to the Kulai MP, will vie for the Bukit Permai state seat, while incumbent Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang, 40, will defend his current seat.
The announcement was made by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook during a candidate announcement ceremony attended by Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching and her deputy, Wong Shu Qi. Loke, who is also the Transport Minister, highlighted that this marks the first time DAP is fielding a candidate in Tiram, a Malay-majority mixed seat, and expressed confidence in gaining voter support.
Loke emphasized that this move aligns with Pakatan Harapan's strategy to secure all state seats under the Kulai parliamentary constituency, which includes three state assembly seats. "Therefore, our strategy is to win all three seats because Bukit Batu (contested by PKR) and Senai are already our incumbent seats," Loke explained. He noted that DAP is contesting in the Bukit Permai area with a candidate, Mohamad Shafwan, who has extensive experience and has been actively engaged in the constituency for the past nine years.
The Election Commission has designated July 11 as the polling day for the Johor state election, with the nomination day set for June 27 and early voting scheduled for July 7.
