DAP Consistent In Pursuing Reform Agenda, Says Gobind

Puchong: DAP will remain consistent in fighting for the reform and renewal agenda, despite acknowledging that implementation takes time as it requires understanding and consensus within the Unity Government. DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo said that as part of today's administration, the party remains steadfast in its promise to bring significant change to the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gobind stated, "When we talk about reform, we must remember that it takes time. This is important because we are now in a government consisting of different parties. We need to reach an agreement before we can move forward, and this is something for which I ask understanding from all parties." He made these remarks at the DAP Kinrara Charity Dinner at Pusat Bandar Puchong, attended by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Gobind further emphasized that DAP has never wavered from its original principles in carrying out reforms, including controversial acts. He cited the issue of the abolition of the Sedition Act 1948, noting DAP's continuous call for the law to be amended, a stance that remains strong despite challenges in reaching agreements for its implementation.

He highlighted that he had raised concerns in the Cabinet about the Sedition Act being used against government critics, resulting in the Cabinet reaffirming its position that the Act will not be used in such cases. Additionally, Gobind addressed the recent book bans by the Home Ministry, leading to a review decision by the Home Minister after discussions in the Cabinet.

The DAP has also advocated for reforms to laws such as the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA), with amendments underway. Other initiatives include the two-term limit proposal for the Prime Minister, expected to be retabled in Parliament in June, and the separation of roles between the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor. Gobind reiterated DAP's commitment to enhancing the legal ecosystem, strengthening the economy, and improving service quality for the well-being of all Malaysians.

Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul highlighted the need for continuous public support for the Unity Government in implementing the reforms emphasized by DAP. He urged the public to exercise patience with the reform process, delivery, and trust. He also stressed the importance of maintaining political stability to ensure investor confidence and strengthen the country's economic resilience amid current challenges.
