Danish Iftikhar Mulls Podium Programme, Education Remains Priority

Kuala lumpur: National young sprinter Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee is prepared to consider joining the National Sports Council (MSN) Podium Programme, provided the offer and conditions align with his current situation as a student. His father Muhammad Roslee Ismail, who is also his coach, said they are still awaiting the official letter outlining the terms of the offer before making any decision.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, if the benefits are good, Muhammad Roslee has no problem with his son joining the programme. However, he emphasized that education comes first, stating that being educated allows one to place themselves anywhere. Danish Iftikhar, a Thailand SEA Games bronze medallist, was listed among 21 athletes selected for the MSN Podium Programme in preparation for upcoming competitions, including the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia.

Malaysian Athletics (MA) secretary-general Nurhayati Karim explained that participation in the Podium Programme is automatically granted to athletes who win any medal at the SEA Games, regardless of colour. Meanwhile, Muhammad Roslee mentioned that besides education, priority would also be given to his son's comfort and happiness while undergoing training under the Podium Programme.

He noted that these aspects must be considered as they can have a significant impact on performance on the track. He assured that they will discuss everything, look at the contract, and all related matters. If the benefits are suitable and his son feels comfortable, he has no problem with the decision.
