Kuala Lumpur: Young Johor sprinter Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee scored an upset at the Kuala Lumpur Super Series Athletics Championship by winning the men’s 100-metre (m) sprint at Merdeka Stadium here today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 18-year-old beat both 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 100m gold medalist Khairul Hafiz Jantan and national sprinter Jonathan Nyepa by securing the gold in 10.57 seconds (s), ahead of second-placed Jonathan (10.66s) and Penang sprinter Tan Zhi Hang, who was third (10.70s).
Danish expressed his gratitude and surprise at his victory, acknowledging the strong competition from other sprinters. He shared his thoughts after the race, stating, “Alhamdulillah. The other sprinters really put up a huge challenge. I can only do my best, the rest I leave to Allah. I have done my best as this is the fastest (this season). it’s my best season and I’m satisfied but I will try to do better.”
Meanwhile, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli won the women’s 100 m sprint with a time of 11.72s, wh
ich she described as a positive beginning for the season. She stated, “I’m very thankful with a time of 11.72s. For me, it’s good because it’s the best record since the start of this season.”
Sabah sprinter Nur Aishah Rofina Aling secured the second position with a time of 11.80s, while national sprinter Azreen Nabila Alias finished third, clocking in at 11.83s.
