Dangerous Car Chase Near Johor Zoo Ends in Shooting

Johor Bahru:Police have confirmed a shooting incident near Johor Zoo on Jalan Gertak Merah where an officer fired at a car driven dangerously by a man with 16 previous criminal records.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect, a 28-year-old male, was pursued by police for one kilometer before the shooting occurred. The suspect's vehicle, a Honda City, contained a 29-year-old female passenger. Various drugs were discovered in the car following the incident.

Police fired two shots after the suspect's car collided with several civilian vehicles, with one bullet striking the male suspect in the head. Both suspects remained inside the car and did not display aggressive behavior during the shooting, as stated by Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad at a press conference.

Subsequent searches of the vehicle revealed seven plastic packets containing 373.80 grams of ecstasy powder and 17 vape cartridges with 6.8 milliliters of ketamine liquid. The male suspect was wanted for a drug offense in Seri Alam and had a history of crimes including drug-related offenses, robbery, rape, and theft.

The female suspect had one prior criminal record related to drugs. Urine tests showed both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. The male suspect, injured in the head, is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

Police plan to seek a remand order for the female suspect. The investigation is proceeding under Section 307 of the Penal Code, Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987, and Sections 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
