Cyclist Nurul Izzah Plans Recovery After Injury at UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup

Kuala Lumpur: National woman cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri can take her time to recover from the injury she sustained at the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Track Cycling Nations Cup in Turkiye last week because her next assignment is only due in May.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nurul Izzah, who injured her knee, said she intends to use the long break to fully recover and rest before the National Track Cycling Championships are held from May 20-25. She noted that the recovery process is progressing well as the wound on her leg has dried up. A checkup at the National Sports Institute confirmed that the injury is not serious. After the Turkiye outing, there aren’t many major meets until July.

Nurul Izzah highlighted that her focus will now be on rehabilitation, with the national championships in May as her next target. Currently, it is the off-season, and she is on holiday until Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the end of this month. During this period, she plans to train on her own.

At the Nations Cup in Turkiye last week, Nurul Izzah experienced a crash after colliding with Makaira Wallace while attempting to overtake the Trinidad and Tobago rider. She was classified as Did Not Finish (DNF) after being left on the track, unable to continue the race, while Wallace secured a third-place finish.
