KLANG: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Central Zone II (Selangor) has successfully seized drugs, electrical goods, ethanol liquid, and luxury vehicles with a total value exceeding RM35.45 million through a series of raids and inspections conducted in the regions of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Customs Central Zone assistant director-general, Norlela Ismail, revealed that on October 3, 448 grammes of cannabis valued at RM13,555 were discovered during an inspection at a courier company warehouse in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam. The cannabis was disguised as ‘Customised Wedding Decor’ and originated from a country in the Americas. Authorities are currently tracing the recipient to aid in the investigation. The shipment contained various cannabis forms, including gel, chocolate bars, candies, and leaves, and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In relation to the seizure of electrical goods worth RM1.2 million, Norlela detailed t
hat this was part of Ops Renjat 2024, carried out between October 9 and 30. This operation led to the discovery of 16,966 electrical items in seven containers at North Port. The goods, intended for online sales, were falsely declared as LCD TVs, table fan parts, and emergency lanterns to bypass obtaining a Certificate of Approval (COA) for importation. The seized items included vacuum cleaners, air fryers, lamps, fans, washing machines, Smart TVs, and other appliances. Investigations are ongoing under Section 135(1)(a) and Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for prohibited goods importation and false declarations.

Moreover, 160 drums containing 26,400 litres of suspected 96% ethanol liquid, valued at RM2.5 million, were found during a container inspection at West Port on November 5. The goods, declared under an incorrect tariff code meant for Dithiocarbonates, are under investigation as per Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967.

In a separate operation, Ops Terma, which ran from October 7 to 30, r
esulted in the seizure of seven luxury vehicles estimated at RM1 million, including unpaid taxes. Vehicles such as Mercedes, Ferrari, Nissan GTR, Jaguar, and Toyota Alphard were confiscated from 29 licensed warehouses across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur due to storage beyond the permitted period. The matter is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
