Albuquerque: Curia Global Inc (Curia) has inaugurated its expanded manufacturing campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following a $200 million investment aimed at boosting domestic production capacity for essential injectable medicines.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the expansion adds 70,000 square feet to the facility's existing 200,000-square-foot manufacturing footprint. This includes the installation of two new isolated filling lines: one flexible line for syringes, cartridges, and vials, and a high-speed vial line capable of handling 1,000-litre batches and filling up to 400 vials per minute.
Curia's chief executive officer, Philip Macnabb, stated that the expansion enables the company to meet rising demand for domestic manufacturing capacity for critical injectable vaccines and medicines. He highlighted that the facility combines increased production capacity and advanced technology with a history of over 40 years in sterile drug product manufacturing.
The expanded campus focuses on aseptic fill-finish and lyophilisation services, enhanced by automated visual inspection and packaging technologies. These capabilities are supported by Sterile University, a sterile manufacturing training programme.
The project was facilitated through a cooperative agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, in coordination with the Department of War's Capability Program Executive for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense.
In a company statement, Curia noted that the State of New Mexico also contributed to the expansion through assistance from the Local Economic Development Act job creation fund.
The expansion strengthens Curia's global network of sterile fill-finish facilities, which provide clinical and commercial manufacturing services for critical medicines and public health needs.
Curia is a contract research, development, and manufacturing organisation with more than 20 global sites and over 3,000 employees, offering services in discovery, development, and manufacturing for biopharmaceutical clients. Founded in 1991 as Albany Molecular Research Inc (AMRI), the company has expanded its capabilities and global reach through strategic acquisitions.
