Cross-sector Cooperation Key To Advancing National Sustainability Agenda

Kuala lumpur: Cooperation between the government, philanthropic institutions, environmental organisations and communities is essential to advancing the national sustainability agenda. Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said addressing environmental challenges requires an approach that involves all segments of society.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Syed Ibrahim emphasized that while national policies and initiatives play an important role, lasting change can only be achieved when sustainable practices become part of everyday life. He made these remarks in a statement after attending the World Environment Day programme organised by Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD).

The event brought together environmental partners, researchers, schools, social enterprises, and community organisations for a range of activities. These included a sustainability-themed treasure hunt, a lake-cleaning programme, a gardening and composting workshop, a waste segregation demonstration, creative upcycling activities, environmental talks, as well as biodiversity learning experiences for children and families.

With the theme 'Cultivating Sustainability Through Volunteering and Community Action' and guided by the message 'Small Actions, Big Impact', the programme reflects the global World Environment Day 2026 campaign. This campaign calls for collective climate action and greater involvement from the business sector and communities in building a more sustainable future.

By translating environmental awareness into practical action, the YSD World Environment Day 2026 programme aims to demonstrate how daily choices can contribute to a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
