Couple Tragically Killed in Motorcycle and Lorry Collision in Besut

Besut: A married couple tragically lost their lives this morning when the motorcycle they were riding collided with an earth-laden lorry and three other motorcycles on Jalan Gong Kedak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victims, Mohd Zamri Mohd Zaki, 41, and his wife Norlyana Ismail, 45, were part of a motorcycle convoy and were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at approximately 9:45 am. Besut police chief Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab. Rahim reported that three other participants of the convoy, riding on two different motorcycles, sustained injuries in the collision.

Initial investigations revealed that the Nissan Tipper lorry involved in the accident was driven by a 57-year-old man traveling from Jertih towards Kuala Besut, with Bachok, Kelantan as the ultimate destination. Simultaneously, three Aveta Nova 250 motorcycles in the convoy were heading in the opposite direction towards Kuala Perlis, Perlis from Kuala Terengganu.

Supt Mohd Rozaime noted that a motorcycle ridden by a 51-year-old woman is believed to have veered into the lorry's path, leading to the collision. The impact caused the lorry to skid and subsequently crash into the motorcycle ridden by Mohd Zamri and Norlyana.

In the same incident, another motorcycle, ridden by a 51-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife, reportedly crashed into the earth load that had spilled onto the road. All injured individuals, including the lorry driver, were transported to Besut Hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital's Forensic Unit for post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the accident to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Zulkifli Razak at 019-4475767 or approach the nearest police station.
